Requiem + Patagonia

(Aysen Region, Chile. 2017)

After the massive dead and strand of 317 whales in the Gulf of Penas area in 2015, the scientist makes periodic research to find out the reasons of the dead. Apparently, it’s caused by micro alga eaten by the whales, this alga contains toxic particles.

Yet, there is no certain explanation for the increase of the algae blooming, but the specialist believes that the phenomena are related to the global warming. More sunny days in a usually cold and cloudy area trigger more photosynthesis among the algae.

In early 2017 a group of scientist patrolled the area founding three corpses of a Sei type whales. Not an alarming amount, but enough to determinate that these deaths were also related to some toxic micro alga.
